Nurturing the Eye

Not so easy, taking care of ourselves.

That said, there are a lot of us out there that ONLY look out for ourselves.  Finding the balance between self-love and being self-ish is an ongoing battle of the mind for some.

Lately, I’ve felt a lot more negative energy swirling around me.  Family of origin issues bubbling up around me.  People dealing poorly.  Things happening that are beyond our control.

I’d love to wave a magic wand and remove the suffering.  But, I have come to realize that, by saving others, it often removes lessons that they are supposed to learn.  It’s not my job to decide who learns and who does not.  It just is.  The lessons are there for a reason.  Sometimes lessons repeat themselves in our lives because we push them away or ignore them.  They always come back. Knowing that, is powerful.

Removing lessons doesn’t help anyone. It prolongs the inevitable.  But, as a nurse, and someone who wants to help people, it is not easy to step back and let the lessons happen.  Often, we get sucked in and find ourselves swirling in the winds of the hurricanes that often surround us.

I’ve learned that it’s important to tie a rope to your waist to keep from getting sucked in too far.

My “rope” is made of everything: music, meditation, bike riding, skiing, hiking, singing, writing, snuggling with my dog or hanging with a good friend.

What does your rope look like?
