Taking the Middle Road

Enough with the negativity.

My mother always taught me that “if you don’t have something nice to say then don’t say anything at all.”

I think humans in general need to be uplifted…not cut down, belittled, or judged for our choices because someone doesn’t like what we do.

It’s so easy to be a jerk on social media, or to the people that are close to us because we know they’re going to love us anyway. Doesn’t mean we need to be someone’s punching bag. It’s just as easy to be nice, encouraging, and loving to each other. We are all fighting battles most people don’t even know about, or can’t relate to.

One thing I know for sure: People treat us how we allow them to treat us. I don’t know about anybody else but I cannot tolerate negativity for too long. Life is too short for that.

With a heavy political year ahead of us, on top of everything else that people are struggling with, let us please think about this.

Let’s check our comments before we hit “send”. Is it kind? Is it uplifting? Is it judging harshly or putting someone down? Is there another way to say the same thing that is more positive or does it even need to be said at all?

Social media is a wonderful place to connect with people we care about, network with people that like the same things, and find support when going through something tough (like cancer, parenthood or rehab). Let us try and remember that and not use social media as a vessel to hurt others.
